There will always be certain shows that will stay in fans’ hearts for years. While viewers thought the finales would be the last time they would see their favorite characters together, that is not the case for some shows. Recently, there has been a trend of popular TV shows getting rebooted. Classics such as Punky Brewster, Frasier, and The Powerpuff Girls are just a few shows coming back to TV in 2021. Michael C. Hall Couldn’t Say No To The Dexter Reboot

The Golden Globe-winning crime drama, Dexter, is headed back to TV. The original series ran from 2006 to 2013, but Showtime announced that a 10-episode limited series will premiere in late 2021.

Michael C. Hall will be reprising his titular role and relayed to The Daily Beast that it’s important for the show to make a comeback. “Let’s be real: people found the way that show left things pretty unsatisfying,” said Hall. He shared that he’s excited to get back into character after eight years.

The iCarly Cast Is (Almost) Back Together

Millennials can rejoice because the Nickelodeon hit, iCarly, is being rebooted. It’s been nine years since their series finale, but Miranda Cosgrove (Carly), Nathan Kress (Freddie), and Jerry Trainor (Spencer) will be reprising their roles. Jennette McCurdy (Sam) and Noah Munck (Gibby) aren’t returning.

The iCarly reboot will be available to watch on Paramount+ starting summer 2021 and there are some new faces joining the cast. Freddie will have a stepdaughter played by Jaidyn Triplett and Carly will have a new best friend and roommate played by Laci Mosley.


The New Faces Of Gossip Girl

The new Gossip Girl is considered a soft reboot because it will feature a new generation of cast members. Fans of the original will appreciate having Kristen Bell back as the narrator, also known as “Gossip Girl.”

The series will premiere on HBO Max later in 2021 with a relatively unknown cast including Emily Alyn Lind, Tavi Gevinson, Thomas Doherty, and Adam Chanler-Berat. Since it takes place in the present day, the new Gossip Girl will focus a lot more on social media against the landscape of New York City.


The Powerpuff Girls Reboot Is Live-Action

Those who grew up during the 2000s are likely to remember Cartoon Network’s hit show The Powerpuff Girls. While the show has rebooted once in the past, it’s now gearing up for a live-action reboot on the CW. The cast includes Dove Cameron as Bubbles, Chloe Bennet as Blossom, and Yana Perrault as Buttercup.

Diablo Cody, who wrote and directed Juno, has adapted the story for modern day. The girls are now disillusioned young adults who are resentful after spending their childhood fighting crime. They’re forced to reunite in order to save the world.


The Daria Reboot Will Focus On Jodie

The upcoming animated series, Jodie, will be a spin-off of a spin-off. Daria was originally a spin-off of Beavis and Butt-Head and now it’s getting rebooted after almost two decades.

Jodie will follow one of Daria’s best friends after she graduates from college and starts her first full-time job at a tech company. The show will take place in the current day, so it will focus on Gen Z struggles, workplace culture, social media, and more. It will become available in 2021 on Comedy Central.


See Punky Brewster All Grown Up

Punky Brewster was an iconic part of 1980s culture. It starred a young Soleil Moon Frye navigating her life with a new caretaker after being abandoned by her parents.

The reboot of the same name picks up with Frye as a divorced mother of three living in the same childhood apartment. Now, a girl similar to Frye’s childhood character is taken in by Punky and her family after she sees their similarities. The show is available now on Peacock.


Kelsey Grammer Is The Driving Force Behind The Frasier Reboot

While Frasier is a spin-off of the hit sitcom, Cheers, it has notoriety of its own. Frasier ran for 11 seasons and earned numerous Emmy and Golden Globe Awards. The show will be returning after 17 years with Kelsey Grammer reprising his iconic role.

It was Grammer who was the driving force of bringing the show back. It is set to debut on Paramount+ sometime this year, but it’s possible that it could get postponed until 2022.

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the creator behind shows such as Riverdale and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, is rebooting the popular vampire series True Blood. Fans of the show may be upset that it likely won’t include the original cast.

When former cast member Anna Paquin found out there was going to be a reboot, she tweeted that she had no idea that it was actually happening. The True Blood reboot is set to premiere on HBO later in 2021.

Fans of the 90s sitcom, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, should know that a reboot called BEL-AIR is set to come out on Peacock very soon. Good Housekeeping says the reboot will give the show a modern twist and touch on current events as they relate to Will Smith’s character.

BEL-AIR will be a stark contrast to its predecessor because it will now be a one-hour drama series, instead of a half-hour sitcom. This will allow the storylines to go a lot deeper than before.


Battlestar Galactica Will Explore A New Story

The science fiction series Battlestar Galactica is gearing up for its second reboot. The show originally aired in 1978, but had a popular reboot from 2004-2009. The reboot is a reimagining of the show that will “explore a new story within the mythology while staying true to the spirit of Battlestar.”

Sam Esmail was tapped to be Battlestar Galactica’s showrunner after leading other successful series such as Homecoming and Mr. Robot. The new Battlestar Galactica will air on Peacock sometime in 2021.

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the creator of Riverdale and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, is ready to bring Pretty Little Liars back to television. The reboot is called Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin, but will feature a new cast.

The show will take place in present-day with a new group of teen girls. The girls are faced with an unknown assailant who is getting back at them for the sins their parents committed and for sins of their own. Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin will premiere on HBO Max later this year.

It’s time for a reunion from the cast of Little House on the Prairie. The hit drama aired on NBC from 1974 to 1982 and will be returning as a one-hour drama on Paramount+ in 2021.

The show was adapted from the popular books by Laura Ingalls Wilder and follows the Ingalls family on their farm in Walnut Grove, Minnesota in the late 1800s. It isn’t confirmed who will be returning for the show, but Alison Arngrim (Nellie Oleson) told Entertainment Weekly that she’s now the right age to play her mother’s character.

Totaling 172 episodes, The Fairly OddParents was one of the longest-running animated series on Nickelodeon. It followed 10-year-old Timmy Turner, who got to live a charmed life with two fairy godparents named Cosmo and Wanda.

Christopher Meloni is reprising his role as Eilliot Stabler and joins new cast members Dylan McDermott, Tamara Taylor, and Danielle Moné Truitt. Law & Order: Organized Crime is currently airing on NBC and can be streamed on Peacock.

The Ren & Stimpy Show’s Second Attempt At A Reboot

Queer as Folk ran from 2000 to 2005 on Showtime and told the story of LGBTQ people living in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The popularity of the series led Peacock to pick up a straight-to-series order for its reboot in 2021.

The reboot will draw inspiration from the original UK series that the American version was based on. It will center around a diverse group of friends living in current-day New Orleans, Louisiana after they face a disastrous tragedy.

Family-based sitcoms were a huge part of 20th century American culture. One of the top sitcoms of that time was The Wonder Years. The show centered on a boy (Fred Savage) coming-of-age in Vietnam-era America dealing with friendships, relationships, family, and more.

The show was nostalgic then because it was filmed during the ’80s and ’90s. Now, The Wonder Years will get a reboot focusing on the same time period, but with a new family from Montgomery, Alabama. The narrator for the protagonist was a key factor in the original and this version will have Don Cheadle in that role.


Beavis And Butt-Head Will Be Set In A Gen Z World

There are certain things that can always be associated with the 1990s and one of those is the animated show Beavis and Butt-Head. The adult cartoon was acclaimed for its witty satire on current society.

Although Beavis and Butt-Head has been revived a couple of times in the past, another reboot for Comedy Central is set to premiere this year. Creator Mike Judge said that the upcoming episodes will be set in a “whole new Gen Z world” to appeal to both the audiences that grew up with the show and the teens of today.
